OK, Steve's a little odd
IT'S NOT THAT HE'S A NEWS JOURNALIST with a seminary degree—or that he treats the Bible as his beat. That’s just a tad strange. Here’s what's really odd:
He writes easy-reading Bible reference books for people who think the best place for a Bible reference book is against an outside wall—added insulation.
So to say his books are easy to read and loaded with pictures seems a bit redundant.
He writes Christian books. But not for Christians.
He says Christians get in the way. They have their minds made up on a lot of controversial topics. Steve says if he wrote for them, he’d have to worry about trying not to tip them over.
Instead, he goes to the Bible the way non-Christians do: asking tough questions. Then he reports what Bible experts have to say for themselves. Steve defends his approach. He says the last word out of Jesus’ mouth as he left the planet wasn’t, “Okay guys, go talk among yourselves.”
